  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with your mental or emotional health, therapy can provide support and guidance. Whether you're facing anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, or just want to improve your overall well-being, therapy is a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings. We can always assess together if therapy is the best fit for you during our initial meeting and when required, can offer referrals to other support services.
  • What can I expect during my first session?
In our first session, we'll discuss your reasons for seeking counselling, explore your background and any concerns you might have, and establish goals for our work together. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions and get a feel for the process. My goal is to make you feel comfortable and supported from the start.
  • How long will I need to be in counselling?
The length of therapy is tailored to your individual goals and the challenges you're facing. For some, short-term therapy (6-12 sessions) is effective in addressing specific concerns, while others may benefit from longer-term support. Throughout our time together, we'll regularly assess your progress to ensure the therapy remains aligned with your needs. Many clients also find it helpful to reach out on an as-needed basis once we've worked through the initial challenges.
  • Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes, everything you share in therapy is confidential. Your privacy is a top priority. There are only a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. I will explain these limits to you at the beginning of our work together, so you can feel safe and secure.
  • Do you accept insurance?
Yes.Although the BC MSP does not cover counselling, most insurance plans cover counselling with Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC).Please inquire with your insurance plan to determine your coverage.
  • What should I do if I need support between sessions?
While I can’t offer crisis support between sessions, I can work with you on strategies to manage distress and provide resources. If you are in immediate crisis, I encourage you to contact a crisis hotline or go to the nearest emergency department. We can also discuss how to address any urgent concerns during your next appointment.
  • What should I need to cancel or if I miss a session?
Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give me at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee. This can be done in your Jane App account where you booked online or by contacting me via email. If you miss a session without providing 24 hours’ notice, a full session fee will apply.
  • Will counselling be hard?
Counselling can sometimes feel challenging, especially as we explore tough emotions or situations that may be causing you distress. While I wish I could promise that every session will leave you feeling better, it's not uncommon to feel a bit worse before you feel better. The important thing is that we’re in this together, and no matter how it feels, we’ll work through it and keep moving toward meaningful change.
  • Is online or phone counselling effective?
Absolutely! In today’s world, online and phone counselling are both highly effective and convenient options. In fact, I closed my in-person practice long before the pandemic when online counselling became more mainstream. While it might feel a bit unfamiliar at first, many people find that these platforms offer a safe, comfortable space for reflection and progress.
