If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with your mental or emotional health, therapy can provide support and guidance. Whether you're facing anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, or just want to improve your overall well-being, therapy is a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings. We can always assess together if therapy is the best fit for you during our initial meeting and when required, can offer referrals to other support services.
What to Expect in the Intake Process
Your first session is an intake appointment designed to give you the time and space to share what’s bringing you to therapy and what you hope to work on. Together, we will explore your background, current concerns, and goals, as well as any relevant personal history, so I can gain a clear understanding of your needs. This session is also an opportunity for us to determine mutual fit and suitability for working together — ensuring the therapeutic relationship is a good match for your needs and goals. From there, we will decide on next steps and create a plan that supports you moving forward. You have the option to book a 50 minute or 75 minute intake appointment.
The length of therapy is tailored to your individual goals and the challenges you're facing. For some, short-term therapy (6-12 sessions) is effective in addressing specific concerns, while others may benefit from longer-term support. Throughout our time together, we'll regularly assess your progress to ensure the therapy remains aligned with your needs. Many clients also find it helpful to reach out on an as-needed basis once we've worked through the initial challenges.
Yes, everything you share in therapy is confidential. Your privacy is a top priority. There are only a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. I will explain these limits to you at the beginning of our work together, so you can feel safe and secure.

While I can’t offer crisis support between sessions, I can work with you on strategies to manage distress and provide resources. If you are in immediate crisis, I encourage you to contact a crisis hotline or go to the nearest emergency department. We can also discuss how to address any urgent concerns during your next appointment.

Counselling can sometimes feel challenging, especially as we explore tough emotions or situations that may be causing you distress. While I wish I could promise that every session will leave you feeling better, it's not uncommon to feel a bit worse before you feel better. The important thing is that we’re in this together, and no matter how it feels, we’ll work through it and keep moving toward meaningful change.
Absolutely! In today’s world, online and phone counselling are both highly effective and convenient options. In fact, I closed my in-person practice long before the pandemic when online counselling became more mainstream. While it might feel a bit unfamiliar at first, many people find that these platforms offer a safe, comfortable space for reflection and progress.
